BSRM Silver Jubilee Cycle Ride

   Lands End to John O Groats – 22 May – 7 June 2009

Don’t Just Sit There!

We are pleased to bring you further news of the Silver Jubilee Cycle Ride and encourage as many of you as possible, with your teams and patients, to participate.  We aim to obtain as much publicity as possible along the way thus raising the profile of BSRM and Rehabilitation Medicine.  Our President, Christine Collin, will cycle the entire route and looks forward to your company.

The BSRM Silver Jubilee Cycle Ride is supported by an unrestricted grant from Ipsen Limited and water bottles have been provided by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors.

When is the ride?

The ride will take place from Friday 22 May to Sunday 7 June 2009, but you can join in for as much of this as you are able – in person or ‘virtually’.  Click here for the  registration form.

Where is the ride?

The ride starts on 22 May at Lands End and finishes on 7 June at John O’Groats – a route is attached with dates and mileage.

Who is it for?

This is a fun event to raise the profile of BSRM and Rehabilitation Medicine.  BSRM Members, their families, colleagues and their patients are welcome to participate.

How can everyone participate?

The ride provides the opportunity for participation by braving the terrain and the elements to cycle part of the route, but also for those unable or unwilling to cycle on the road for whatever reason, participation can be virtual.  Mileage can be clocked up in the department/gym.  If you would like to borrow a Motomed machine for virtual participation, we have been offered a limited number on a loan basis, so let me know and I will pass your details on to Motomed.

I want to participate – what next?

You can register here and it is free!  Please register as soon as possible so that we can keep you informed of the plans.  During the cycle ride you will be able to submit your/your unit’s mileage regularly.  With your permission we will include your mileage in a ‘league table’ on the BSRM website so that those of you who are truly competitive can gain real satisfaction from beating your colleague’s total!

Incentives!

The units/individuals who clock up more than 25 miles will be entered into a prize draw.  The draw and presentation of the prize will take place at the BSRM Silver Jubilee Meeting in Oxford (30 September-2 October 2009).  There will also be goodies and certificates for all participants.

Finally, if you are able to help in any way in addition to cycling – by forwarding details of a local press contact, taking photographs of your local ride etc – please let me know.

Accommodation on route

See link for bed and breakfast establishments along the route.
